Color and Perm Care Tips
The best plan of action when it comes to washing your hair after receiving a perm or getting your hair colored is to avoid washing your hair at first. Giving your new hair color or perm ample time to take hold should also provide longer lasting results.
Also, the less frequently you wash your hair, the longer your natural oils can help preserve your new color or perm. Hydrating hair with leave-in or deep conditioners can also be helpful to maintain beautiful color and curls.
Harsh elements you should try to avoid exposing your new color or perm to should include frequent heat styling at high temperatures, chlorinated pool water, UV rays from the sun and hair products containing sulfates or alcohol. Plus, remember to always be gentle with your hair, avoiding things like vigorous brushing and rough towel drying.
Hair Extension Care Tips
As with newly colored hair and permanents, gentle, infrequent washing with sulfate and alcohol-free hair products is best; and avoid harsh heat styling when possible. Heat protectant products can help.
When you wash your hair, never scrub your hair extensions. Instead, lightly work shampoo and conditioner through hair. Also never brush wet hair extensions; and when you do brush dry hair extensions, use a wide tooth comb for synthetic hair extensions and a nylon brush for human hair extensions.
Don’t forget to extend your hair extension care into the overnight hours…Loosely braiding hair extensions and sleeping on a silk pillowcase to help avoid tangles.
