Spray Tanning FAQs: Answers to Your Most Common Tanning Questions

Everyone looks better with a tan. Ever tried spray tanning? You should! It’s the perfect way to tan without exposing yourself to harmful UV rays. Here are some helpful answers to the most commonly asked questions about spray tanning…

Q: How long can I expect my spray tan to last?

A: Typically, a spray tan will last about a week.

Q: If I have an event, how long before it should I spray tan?

A: Spray tanning two or three days before an event is optimal.

Q: How often should I spray tan?

A: Every 9-12 days is an ideal schedule for tanning maintenance.

Q: Is there anything I should do or change prior to my spray tan?

A: You can shave prior to spray tanning and moisturize as long as it is with oil-free and sunless moisturizer.  Exfoliating prior to spray tanning, especially on dry patches, such as elbows, knees and hands, is also recommended. Just don’t shave or exfoliate afterwards for at least four hours. Also avoid bathing, waxing, spa treatments, sweaty activities and swimming for at least four hours after spray tanning.

Q: Is there anything I should do to extend the life of my spray tan?

A: It is important to note that chlorine can break down a spray tan, so avoid swimming pools. Lotions with oils, pore strips, harsh soaps and tight clothing should also be avoided after a spray tan. It’s best to wear dark, loose fitting clothing directly after your tanning session.

Q: What should I consider during my tanning session?

A: A protective cap is recommended to protect your hair, nail polish can protect your nails and your birthday suit is the best attire for a spray tan. That includes removing jewelry!

Q: Where should I get my spray tan?

A: You can make a convenient spray tan appointment at Swanky Salon in New Smyrna Beach!
