Gel or Acrylic Nails?

Gel nails and acrylic nails are both artificial nail enhancements with very different benefits. Which you choose will very likely depend on your particular preferences and the life you lead. Here is what is, hopefully, some useful information to help you decide…

Although not quite as flexible as natural nails, gel nail enhancements are more flexible than acrylic ones, resulting in more natural feeling and possibly more comfortable nails. With gel nails, your nails will appear slightly glossy and your nail beds will look more natural than they would with acrylic. These nail enhancements can last you up to two weeks.

While they may look slightly thicker and a little less natural than gel nails, acrylic nails are harder than gel nails, but that also means that acrylic nail enhancements are more durable and longer-lasting. They also tend to be less expensive.

Now, just to be safe, let’s talk about proper nail enhancement care, whether they are gel or acrylic. Gel and acrylic nail enhancements can weaken natural nails and leave an impression on the nail bed over time, so it makes good sense to have them applied professionally. Also be careful if you work with water, washing dishes, cleaning houses, washing hair, etc. because excessive exposure to water can increase the chances of acquiring nail fungus. Both types of nail enhancements also require professional removal for best results.

Speaking of professionals…be sure that your salon is a reputable one, like Swanky Salon. That way, you can be certain that your nails, whether you choose gel or acrylic, are both beautiful and healthy. If applied correctly by an experienced nail technician, either should yield gorgeous results and neither should damage the nail bed.

Swanky Salon nails will gel (or acrylic) perfectly with you!
